Growing Requirements

Reported to be tolerant of full sun, but in areas of low humidity the thin leaves may burn. In such locations the plant should be given some protection.

Characteristics

The colour is a light jasper red to orange red. The margins of the large to very large leaves are broadly undulated. The tips may turn down. The leaf texture is rather thin.

History

Introduced into Hawaii from Tahiti, originally by Gerrit Wilder, then by Sir Peter Buck. Some authorities believe that the form introduced by Gerrit Wilder may in fact be different to the one introduced by Sir Peter Buck.
