Growing Requirements

Will tolerate full sun but best results are achieved when the plant is given some protection.

Characteristics

Colour is Dark green to maroon (more maroon in good light). The outer margins are edged with red. The midribs of the older leaves are usually marked with red. In the cooler months the new growth may be flushed with pinkish red. The petioles are marked with bright pink/red. Leaves are Juno. The margins of the medium to large leaves are slightly to moderately undulated. The outer edges cup up. The tips usually turn up (more obvious on the newer growth) The foliage is rather stiffly held. There is normally some creasing on the upper surface of the leaves. A medium sized Cordyline.

History

Imported into Hawaii by Bill Durstan (Waimanalo Nurseryman) and named by him after a famous Hawaiian Sumo wrestler.
